Truth



Truth has become an important, operative word for me of-recent...

I was in D.C. this past weekend for a family Bar Mitzvah and saw a stunning collection of images of African Americans, incl. this iconic image of Sojourner Truth...but look at her hands! They are wide and strong and bespeak a truthfulness, an unfathomable truthfulness in experience.

have not gotten to reading Benjamin, but making my way through a collection of Orwell essays, where he writes truth.

this post will grow...

My sister visited this past weekend. OMG, we had such a good time and we TOTALLY had a heated conversation at the dinner table about the elections...then I read this article in The Nation -- I felt like such a part of everything.

I remember seeing Susan Sontag come into the Met when I was there. She was a regular. And the Museum paid tribute when she died. I remember Bob Bethay'd greet her, get her oriented and they'd trade barbs. Bob got a profile in the new book Museum.

The High Line—the conversion of the old elevated West Side train tracks into a lush landscaped path/trippy mindf&ck—will open its first segment to area fashionistas in the fall. That's still a long way off, and since the only regular glimpse we can get of the construction comes from the Standard Hotel's website, we're left craving more. More, damn it! Luckily, our call for all-High-Line-all-the-time has been answered. Coming at you like a rusted b'tch scorned is the High Line Blog and the High Line Facebook page. The Friends of the High Line appear to be behind both ventures, and neither is written from the perspective of the High Line itself, an unfortunate missed opportunity. Dear Diary, today the Standard dropped another wrench on my head. I responded by staring up into its crotch for 24 hours...
